Staying Cool In This Heat Wave

Summer is a fun time, but, with it can come heat waves that are not so fun. The northeast region of the United States is experiencing record temperatures this week and staying cool is your first defense against heat exhaustion. A great way to recover from the heat and relieve uncomfortable heat rash also known as prickly heat is soaking in the tub. Here is a pretty simple recipe that adults can try:

A good soak can help soothe prickly heat.

Prickly Heat Soak

1 Cup Baking Soda
4 Drops Lavender Essential Oil

Add the lavender essential oil to your baking soda and mix thoroughly. Run a warm bath and add the mixture to your bath before soaking.

If you are on the go and can't soak in the tub, you can make a mist that works just as well. I learned this recipe a few years ago from the Valeria Worwood's book on essential oils and aromatherapy.

Prickly Heat Body Mist
6 Drops Chamomile Essential Oil
6 Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
6 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
1tsp Alcohol ( I use Vodka)
1 Cup of Water

Mix essential oil with alcohol and add to water. Splash or mist area as needed.

Remember drink lots of water, wear light clothing, cool showers, baths or sponge baths.

Stay Cool,
Benardett
